The Wabamun Lake fishing regulations work fully on a catch and release basis. This includes all of the six fish species including the Northern Pike, Walleye, Lake Whitefish, Pickerel, Perch, and Burbot (mostly caught in winter months). 

The name Wabamun means “looking glass” in Cree.

Yes, Wabamun Lake is safe to swim in. The lake is ranked as one of the top five best lakes in Alberta and is very clean. We have a huge dragonfly population which only breeds on clean bodies of water. The lake offers many swimming areas as well. The most popular areas where you can swim in Wabamun Lake is a smaller swimming area at waterfront next to the splash park and a larger beach area at Provincial Park, located on the opposite side of the lake.

Yes, dogs are allowed at Wabamun Lake, but on leash only.

The distance is approximately one hour west of Edmonton and 3 hours east of Jasper on Highway 16.

Wabamun has all essential services including banks, a grocery store, Home Hardware, vehicle repair services, drugstore, bottle depot, carwash, and a laundromat.

East Pit Lake is two miles north of Wabamun. This particular lake is a man-made trout stocked lake and no motor crafts are allowed. It’s terrific for hiking and where the Northern Lights are commonly viewed.
